Garden DistrictThe Garden District in New Orleans is known for its historic houses, great eateries, and fun locally-owned shops and boutiques. Once a home to large plantations, the neighborhood gradually changed to incorporate lovely smaller estates known for the lush gardens surrounding them. Now, many of the houses and buildings are national landmarks, including the George Washington Cable House, making the Garden District a gem to explore either on foot or via the historic St. Charles streetcar.
